New Balance Nation

Golden Goose, who? The new motto: New Balance Nation. Though they need no introduction, we can’t help but start with their roots before giving you best styles. NB has a storied history in fashion and early American manufacturing. Founded in 1906 by Irish immigrant William J. Riley, the privately held 4.4 billion dollar namesake, settled in Boston, Massachusetts, is no stranger to controversy. In 2016, NB publicly opposed the Obama-era Trans-Pacific Partnership, championing America First policies. While Obama traveled to Nike headquarters to promote the abysmal policy that would've shuttered NB production in the U.S., the American company stood firm against the administration’s attempts to stay silent on the domestic economic fallout of TTP.

NB's recent viral ascent may be, in part, thanks to marketing of bloggers and designers in European and Scandinavian cities. But today, the 107-year-old brand remains quintessentially American and, dare we say, conservative. Even our military continues to outfit itself in NB, and that's a style TC can get behind.

The sporty sensations have been around for decades; you've seen them in endless contexts, styles, and collaborations. And yes, we can confirm they're beyond comfortable. Put a pep in your step and keep scrolling to find your preferred model. You're no sell-out owning NB.

Viral Grey

I watched fraternity brothers in Dallas bounce around campus during the Trump years in this style. Then the world saw them on women, (specifically in the streets of Copenhagen) and it broke the Internet.

The Dad Shoe

Today, NB Dad styles scream “athletic” and have a much more modern take than the older, bright white tennis “Dad” shoes you may recall. This style is more netting, more suede, and less leather. They’re highly functional and likely more affordable than other models. They’re often styled for the gym, or more artfully, like a “tourist in your own city” shoe.

Exclusive and Different

Styles that fall under this umbrella tend to have more of a basketball shoe silhouette. Think Nike Air Force, but a thousand times more comfortable and coveted. Styling these (often colorful) pairs is always fun. Bonus points for looking like a collector.

Niche

If you’re someone who is dedicated to standing out in a crowd, pick up some inspiration below. Popular women’s label STAUD and rising brand Aimé Leon Dore have joined forces with NB for some high-profile collaborations. P.S. most of the linked shoes below are upcoming releases you can still get your hands on.
